About Somerset Stables

Somerset Stables

Reinette Te Water Naudé, wife of the late Dr Theo Te Water Naudé, bought this old stable-like building (circa 1856) in 1997 and restored it to its present form. More buildings were added onto the main dwelling in a U shape with a stoep and shutters. Somerset Stables is perfectly located in the most popular part of town, away from the hustle and bustle, but yet within walking distance to shops, restaurants and schools. The large comfortable bedrooms en-suite, are decorated with style, TV with M-Net, Persian and wool carpets. High quality cotton linen provides a comfortable sleep. Private entrances to the rooms ensure your privacy where you can enjoy peace, tranquility and comfort and have time to reflect or meditate. A beautiful garden was laid out and is filled with trees, roses, plumbago, lavender, bougainvillea, evening primrose, hibiscus, flowers, herbs etc, and it is frequently visited by birds, bees, butterflies and chameleons. Enjoy the smell of jasmine while sitting on the stoep. The garden has a stunning view of the mountain going up to the Valley of Desolation. Enjoy the Karoo night sky filled with stars that makes you think of God’s personal jewellery box! There’s enough turning space for trailers and boats. Covered parking for vehicles is provided on the premises with remote control security gate. This is not a business; this is my sanctuary and home where you are my guest to enjoy a memorable stay and to explore our town.
