MUIZENBERG: Offering one of Cape Town's most beautiful beaches - with 36km of white sands, safe bathing and a beachfront Pavillion offering a swimming pool, waterslide and putt-putt course - Muizenberg was once considered a most fashionable resort town, and this legacy lives on in its many gracious buildings. Take the 30 min walk along the seafront between Muizenberg and St James - it's excellent for whale watching between June and November - or a train ride to Simon's Town for its views of this picturesque coastline.The Muizenberg Toy Museum houses a fascinating collection of early toys as well as a shop dealing in modern toys and collectors� items. The Natale Labia Museum - a satellite of Cape Town's National Gallery - houses superb temporary and permanent art exhibitions. The collections in the South African Police Museum include many pieces of interest pertaining to the early days of policing in this country and is housed in the old Magistrate's Court and Carnegie Library. For a glimpse of local history - and to learn more about the Battle of Muizenberg (1795), South Africa'ss only important naval engagement - visit Het Posthuys Museum, which is housed in a fortress thought to have been built as a look-out post in 1673.
