Nuwerus Western Cape Cape West Coast Information

Approximately 370km from Cape Town along the N7 lies the little West Coast town of Nuwerus. Being in the Richtersveld area, it is a popular attraction in the early spring time, when the flowers of the veld offer a wonderful display.

The area has been renowned for it's mutton, as the vegitation is similar to that of the karoo. It is therefore not strange the the mutton from here is also known as Karoo lamb.

Previously known, as Erdevarkgat, the name Nuwerus was given when the migrants found its water better than what they previously had. They set up a staging post, and it became a main stop for postal coaches.
