Botrivier Western Cape Cape Overberg

Botrivier Western Cape Cape Overberg Information

Botrivier lies on the slopes of the Houw Hoek Mountains. It overlooks the wheatlands of the Overberg, with truly spectacular sceneries. It is a rather small village, but known by many as the gateway to the Overberg.

The historical estate Compagnies Drift on which it was establisheshed is almost in the centre of the village. It was a historical trading and bartering station of the VOC (Dutch East India Company). The first owner took in travellers at night, and when the Botrivier Hotel was built during the early 1890s, it took over the duties of the traditional stopover.

Today it is also a venue that holds regular music concerts, with a fine restuarant and drop-off point for the Baz Bus shuttle.

Nearby you'll find the Bot River Lagoon, Kleinmond and Walker Bay. The village offers many activities including horse-riding, hiking trails and quad biking. There are also wine tours to take with about twelve wine farms in the District.
