Home to the Aloe
Albertinia, now a thriving business town, has retained much of the character of a typical late 18th and early 19th century trade outpost. The town was one of the first in South Africa to be awarded the "Proudly South Africa" status. The town has several export products. Apart from the aloe cosmetics and health care products, the town exports thatching reed as well as fresh and dried flowers. A variety of raw materials are mined and marketed abroad. Amongst them are yellow ochre and quartzite.
Albertinia is the primary SA source of ochre which is used in the manufactruring of paints and the colouring of cement and linoleum. Adrenaline junkies can engage in the thrill of a swing (solo or tandem) from the old bridge at the original African bungy site, abseiling and 4x4 scenic routes. For the less adventurous outdoor lovers, there are a number of hiking trails, mountain biking and organized tours to factories.
A rich diversitey of proteas, everlastings, grasses, aloes and the Albertinia Bridal Erica (Erica Bauera) provides a flourishing dried flower industry.
The town and surrounds offer an eclectic mix of attractions and activities, including a pukka South African game drive experience, in search of the BIG FIVE in Albertinia. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Langeberg mountains, a malaria-free, private game reserve is home to an abundance of animal and bird life including the BIG 5. Albertinia visitors can enjoy game viewing in open Land Rovers, luxury accommodation and a memorable dining experience.
Albertinia has something for everyone, from adrenalin sport to scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings. The town boats a flourishing dried flower, thatch and ochre industry. The Albertinia aloe products produced in the region are distributed worldwide and tours of the various factories are available.
