Rustenburg North West Bojanala Information

The name Rustenburg means “Town of Rest” and was founded in 1851. The settlement originally served as a church centre and later became a border post for hunters, explorers and prospectors. Rustenburg is Paul Kruger’s home town and one of the oldest towns in the province.

Rustenburg is located on the edge of the mineral wealthy area of the Bushveld Igneous Complex and one of the most heavily mined areas in the world. The Platinum Mines and the Chrome Industry are important features of this town. However there are also quite a few large parks and reserves in close proximity from Rustenburg. The Rustenburg Nature reserve offers hiking trails in the Magaliesberg with its rich bird life and fauna and flora.

The famous Sun City Resort was also erected in this area. It is internationally well-known as a leisure, entertainment and conference destination.
