The North West Province of South Africa is bounded on the north by Botswana, on the south by the provinces of Free State and the Northern Cape, and on the northeast and east by the Limpopo Province and Gauteng.

The Magaliesberg mountains are situated on the province's north-east corner and the Vaal River forms a natural boundary to the south.

The North West is divided into four main regions (Bojanala, Bophirima, Central and Southern). The Tswana people make up most of the province's residents.

Most parts of the province consist of flat areas of grassland and scattered trees and therefore this area is an ideal setting for some beautiful and malaria-free wildlife reserves.

The province has a magnitude of agricultural, mining and tourism opportunities. There are many sheep farms and cattle and game ranches in the northern and western parts of the province.

Mining of platinum, diamond and gold creates considerable wealth and contributes to the provincial economy.
