Musina Limpopo Vhembe Information

Musina is situated in the Limpopo valley in the most Northern area of South Africa adjacent to the Zimbabwe border at Beit Bridge. The town developed around the copper mining industry. During the 20th century diamond, copper, iron, coal, graphite and other mines developed in the area which is a very rich mining region of South Africa. The area is also renowned for game hunting and game lodges. A heritage site was recently declared in the area. It is named “Mapungubwe” which means “Hill of the Jackal” and is one of the richest archaeological sites in South Africa. Baobab trees, which are a protected species, grow here. Subtropical fruit farming such as mangoes and dates are also prevelant here.
