“The High Place” is adjacent to the White Mfolozi River. It was the Zulu King Cetshawayo’s new capital when he became king in 1873. Ulundi is steeped in Anglo-Boer war history. Cetshwayo’s memorial is here. In 2004 Ulundi replaced Pietermaritzburg as the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province’s capital Ulundi has one of the biggest and most modern administration complexes in the country. And Ulundi is the residence of the king of the Zulus, King Goodwill Zwelithini. The grave of King Mpane is opposite the Legislative Assembly in the town area. There is a small museum as well.
