Meyerton a rural town that lies south of Johannesburg falling into an area known as the Vaal Triangle - a rough triangle made up of Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark and Sasolburg Meyerton was established in 1891 and was named after JP Meyer a field cornet and member of the Transvaal Volksraad. It acquired municipal status in 1961. Since 1994, Meyerton has been the administrative centre for the Midvaal Local Municipality and the town consists of the CBD, residential suburbs, industrial areas and farming communities.

Meyerton was founded through the discovery of the ‘Black Reef’ - a vein of gold that ran through a number of farms on the banks of the Klip River. There is a distinctly rural feel to this part of the country. Once you escape to Meyerton you have a feeling of been in the countryside and the access to both the Klip River and the Vaal Dam, a very popular weekend haunt, makes it that much more enticing. The Vaal Dam which is close bye is a body of water larger than Luxembourg.
