Bronkhorstspruit is a small farming town 50km east of Pretoria, along the N4 highway towards Witbank. It lies on the border between the Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces. Bronkhorstspruit, hosts the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere. It is the South African headquarters of the Humanistic Buddhist order and does a lot of community work. It is open to the public, and may want to indulge in a weekend retreat. Bronkhorstpruit has a large dam and the Bronkhorstspruit Nature Reserve. It houses more than 200 spesies of birds, many of them waterbirds. The dam has many varieties of fish and lures the fishermen.

The dam is host to the Transvaal Catamaran Club. Over weekends the dam is utilized by boats, yachts and surfers. There are a few resorts around the dam, with swimming pools, camping sites and restaurants.
