Marquard Free State Eastern Region Information

Marquard is a small farming town in the Free State province of South Africa that serves Winburg in the northwest. The town was set up by an influential Dutch Reform minister, JJ Marquard with the help of Christoffel Cornelis Froneman, the commandant of the Orange Free State in 1905. Marquard was found in xx and named after a Dutch Reformed Reverent Marquard who a letter to the local government asking to start a town on the farm Varschfontein. Marquard is also home to the Sparta group which is one of the largest cattle farms in South Africa and a leading supplier of beef and beef products in South Africa.
