Discover the Culture of the Kouga

Visit this 154 year old country town. An annual Fynbos Festival - held in August of each year - attests to the beauty of the natural vegetation of the Humansdorp area, where more than 2 000 species of plants grow naturally.

The unique Kouga Cultural Centre was officially opened on 21 December 2002. Come and visit this centre, explore the surroundings, stay over at one of our quality B&Bs or self-catering establishments and meet the friendly people of this country town. Visit the old mill in town, built in 1874 and to be restored into working order as part of the Kouga Cultural Centre.

Come and experience the Khoisan cultural history. Visit Sarah Baartmans grave at Hankey, about 30km inland from Humansdorp or visit a game farm where you can see lion, giraffe, rhino, eland and many other game species. The Eastern Cape is a malaria free region with good roads.

As a bonus you will get safe sandy beaches only 18km away from Humansdorp or challenge yourself on our Gary Player designed golf course.

Humansdorp lies 87km west of Port Elizabeth and 3km off the N2 en route to Cape Town. Humansdorp is the main commercial and industrial centre for the Kouga Region.
