Jansenville Eastern Cape Karoo Heartland Information

Angora Capital - This small Karoo town, built on the banks of the Sundays River, dating back to 1855, is the one of the country’s biggest mohair producing districts, and forms part of the Mohair Route, named after the silky and strong fleece of the Angora goat. The shearing of goats can be viewed on working farms, three times a year. The leading Angora studs and stud breeders can be found in Janseville.

A fort built on a hilltop outside the town dates back to the Anglo Boer War. The Sid Fourie House in the town has may interesting historical papers, books and pictures of this eccentric author, world traveller and philanthropist. The 1885 Dutch Reformed Church (National Monument) is a striking focal point of the town.
